Rip Curl W.A.S.T - Parte I

PT: Terminou este domingo a terceira e ultima etapa do circuito Rip Curl W.A.S.T (West Africa Surf Tour, circuito de surf da costa oeste Africana), com representantes de Cabo Verde, Marrocos e Senegal. Participaram os atletas nacionais, Edson Fernandes (Kabungo) e Roberteney Barros (Ró), bem como vários outros locais que fizeram parte dos wildcards do evento em Cabo Verde.

O Tour teve o seu ponto culminante nas fracas ondas do “secret spot”, localizado na costa oeste da ilha do Sal. A expectativa era de que a prova pudesse ser realizada na onda de Ponta Preta mas devida à falta de ondulação teve que ser transferida mais para o norte da ilha o que proporcionou algumas ondas, mas infelizmente muito fracas. Tiveram uma boa prestação, tendo os nossos Kite surfistas de plantão Matchu Almeida e Airton Cozzolino se aventurado em outras modalidades. Participaram também atletas cabo-verdianos provenientes das outras ilhas, Emanuel Silva, Marcos Silva, Renato Vasconcelos, bem como as participações especiais de Osvaldo Lizardo e Herida Santos (kukuca) que foi a única presença feminina no evento.

Os nossos atletas exibiram bom nível de surf, tendo Matchu sido o Kriol que mais progrediu na prova, alcançando o terceiro lugar do pódio. Infelizmente o Ró teve uma saída prematura da prova em relação às expectativas altas que tínhamos em relação a ele, mas na classificação geral do Tour ficou bem posicionado no quinto lugar.

Não só a etapa cabo-verdiana, mas o tour como um todo foi dominado pelos atletas marroquinos, que apresentaram um surf de bom nível, e acostumado a competições, Chadi Lahroui venceu o compatriota Elharim na final, tendo este segundo no entanto se tornado o campeão do circuito.

The tour had its culmination in the weak waves of the "secret spot", located on the west coast of the island of Sal. The expectation was that the test could be performed in the waves of Ponta Preta but, due to lack of swell, had to be transferred to the north of the island which provided some waves, but unfortunately very weak.They had a good performance having our Kite surfers Matchu Almeida and Airton Cozzolino ventured in other modalities.The event was also attended by Cape Verdean athletes from the other islands, Emanuel Silva, Marcos Silva, Renato Vasconcelos, as well as special appearances of Osvaldo Lizardo and Herida Santos (kukuca) who was the only female presence at the event.

Our athletes showed good surfing level, being Matchu the kriol progressed further in the competition, reaching the third place on the podium. Unfortunately Ró had an early exit of proof in relation to the high expectations we had of him, but in the overall standings of the Tour was well positioned in fifth place.

Not only Cape Verdean step, but the tour as a whole was dominated by the Moroccan athletes who presented a solid level of surfing, and are used to Chadi Lahroui competitions, the compatriot Elharim won the final, having the athlete ranked in second placehowever becoming the champion of the circuit.
