EN: Expectations are shit, often they are either exceeded or they are capable of ruining moments that are naturally already good. For some reason, the insatiable nature perhaps…we always think that things can be better than they are. The prospect of regaining a loved one, a plate of food, a day of waves, there is nothing that cannot be tainted by the desire to experience things as we imagine them in our heads. Everything ends up being a question of memory, without it we would have no basis for comparison and we wouldn't have the imagination of possibilities that don't yet exist, the sweet memories we have often bring a slight smile to our lips when we bring them to life, or they can also be a burden
EN: And speaking of memory, I don't know if you remember, but last winter was one of the best winters in memory, having been the peak of three consecutive la Niña seasons. Of course, this is subjective, according to each person's memories and expectations, but my points of view do not come from a personal vision but from a consensus gathered from several conversations. However, this is a past reality and all we can do is say Adios La Niña.
EN: It's better not to have expectations, say the wisest, but what no one tells us is how not to have them. This becomes more difficult when the things we want depend on factors that go beyond our ability to control, a good Swell for example. How can we not remember and long for this season the same incredible conditions we have had in recent winters, particularly in the last year of la Niña. To make matters worse, there was all the hype surrounding this year being the year of El Niño, which is already happening, but in these parts (so far) has fallen far short of expectations.
How to manage
this? I honestly don't know, perhaps by creating even more expectations that
the effects of El Niño will be delayed and that conditions will improve by the
end of the season. With the forecasts for the next few days pointing to this,
we wait anxiously and revive memories of some of those moments from last year.
But be very careful, because expectations are shit.
